Ashtanga Yoga
Ashtanga Yoga is the system of yoga taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India. The method involves a set series of yoga postures that are linked together using the breath. It is an energetic and therapeutic form of yoga that can be practiced by anyone at any stage of life.

Sri K. Pattabhi Jois or Guruji (as he was known to his students) was the founder of Ashtanga Yoga. He first began teaching yoga in 1937, and students from all over the world came to study with him in his home in Mysore, India. A man of boundless energy, love and laughter, he taught until the age of 93. His legacy lives on through his daughter, Saraswathi, and his grandson, Sharath.

Ashtanga Yoga is the original vinyasa flow system from which power yoga, and other vinyasa flow classes have drawn their influences. Through the efforts of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the Ashtanga teachings have been preserved and are accessible in their authentic form through Woodley Park Yoga.
